What is a saline EEG cap?

The Saline EEG cap (also called salt cap or free cap) was Thomas Feiner, QEEG-D and founder of the Institute for EEG Neurofeedback. It uses sponges soaked in saline solution to improve conduction between the scalp and electrodes – without any gel or paste.

The Free cap is considered the international quality standard for reliable saline EEG caps and is available exclusively from Neurofeedback partners in Germany available.

Features of the free cap:

  • Easy handling and excellent electrode quality (SCP, ERP, ISF, ILF)
  • No gel or paste required, quick installation, clean work
  • Electrodes can be moved flexibly (e.g. in the case of bone defects or wounds)
  • Individual parts such as electrode holders, cables, chin straps and sponges are interchangeable
  • 1–19 electrode assemblies possible
  • Compatible with many manufacturers (e.g. Brainmaster, Q20, Cognionics CAMP, others via adapter)
  • Durable, sustainable and easy to clean

Areas of application:

  • Neurofeedback (SCP, ISF, ILF, QEEG)
  • Wellness, relaxation, cognitive training and education

Product classification:

The Free-Cap Wellness contains no electronic components and is not a medical device according to EU Regulation 2017/745 (MDR). It was General Product Safety Directive (2001/95/EC) and the EU Regulation 2023/988 developed and therefore requires no CE marking.

Each box comes with:

  • Mesh cap with a total of 22 silver electrodes: 19 measuring electrodes, 2 reference electrodes (A1, A2) at the mastoid positions and 1 ground electrode.
  • 22 sponge pads
  • Chin adjustable strap

No gel, no paste - High-quality EEG, the likes of which never existed before.

The specific Free-Cap-19 channel set is actually offered with sintered Ag/AgCl electrodes to ensure durability and stable performance.
These electrodes provide a very stable electrochemical interface between skin and electrode, significantly reducing noise, drift, and polarization.
This results in more constant and precise EEG signals, especially in semi-dry or low-frequency measurements.

The Free-Cap Peak Performance is a new EEG cap that Saltwater as a conductor used. The electrodes are placed in a holder with a special Sponge materialIt is inserted, which slowly releases moisture to the scalp. The electrodes are optimally positioned and can be easily repositioned if necessary.

Is a rubber band or electrode holder broken?

No problem: With the Free-Cap, you can easily replace individual parts.

A saline cap, also called a salt cap or salt water cap, is an EEG (electroencephalogram) device that requires saline solution to improve conductivity between the scalp and the electrodes. This is achieved by placing a sponge soaked in saline solution between the scalp and the electrode surface.

Thomas Feiner, qEEG specialist and founder of the Institute for EEG Neurofeedback, invented the first saltwater cap based on an EEG network.Free-Cap Peak Performance has become the global quality standard for reliable saline EEG caps.

There is only one place where this saline EEG cap can be purchased – at Neurofeedback partnerin Germany. Only there can you be sure of receiving the same quality and reliability of Thomas Feiner's patented invention.

Customer testimonials about Free-Cap Peak Performance

This is what our satisfied customers say

I use the cap daily; it is well received by customers, especially because no paste residue remains in the hair after the treatment.

The cap's conductivity is excellent, so the workload is minimal. GREAT!!

Best regards

Niels Schnepel

The Free-Cap is highly recommended in every available version. Whether 2-, 4- or 19-channel, the cap is easy to handle and is perceived as very comfortable by patients.

On the technical side, it also represents a significant advance: impedances below 5 kOhm are quite easy to achieve with a little NuPrep or OneStep, and the EEG signal is nice and clear.

Two pleasant additional effects: The hair is not full of glue after training (a positive aspect, especially for female patients), and if a child decides after being wired up that their shoes need to be taken off and bends forward, the cap keeps all the electrodes in place.

Philipp Heiler

A great invention... I have the highest praise for the Free Cap.

Once you use it, I can't imagine that you would ever want to go back to the paste method.

In my experience, connectivity is superior, even with ISF.

I have found it to be successful with all types of hair.

Both clients and technicians are thrilled to have neurofeedback without the mess.

Thomas Feiner's EEG caps are a new, excellent and needed innovation.

The cap is easy to apply and comfortable.

It is also unique in that one can simultaneously record EEG while presenting stimulus and other treatment modalities.

Dr. Robert W. Thatcher, Ph.D., CEO Applied Neuroscience, Inc.

I hope you had a booth at ISNR—neurofeedback practitioners need to know about this cap, especially those doing whole-head assessments and 19-channel surface and Loreta.

So much quicker to use, easy to get good low impedances, much more comfortable for the patient.

So, I've a few women patients who only come at the end of the day because my regular cap messes up their hair. Yours — negligible inconvenience.

I especially like being able to lift up the electrode, touch with NuPrep on the scalp, put it back, and impedance is down — with no discomfort.

I've one patient who is the most difficult in 36 years to hook up.

Hope your cap is a success. You deserve to make lots of money on this one — a great contribution

Dr. Dick Genardi, Ohio, USA

I bought a 4-channel FreeCap from Thomas Feiner at ISNR, and tried it out on myself today.

To tell the truth I was a bit skeptical when I bought it but 'banked' on Thomas' reputation.

The cap produced beautifully clean EEG that you could tell came from low impedance (5–8 kΩ) and DC around 1 to 3.

I was using the Discovery amp but will now also buy an adapter so I can use it with the Atlantis amp.

Most of our clients use their saline cap for neurofeedback and quantitative EEG (qEEG). The Free-Cap Peak Performance can also be used for:

  • ISF neurofeedback (Mark Smith) and ILF neurofeedback (Othmer, Neuro-Amp) are used.
  • The Free-Cap is a 19-channel saline cap with mastoid electrodes as references, which can be easily attached to the mastoids. These saline caps come standard with mastoid electrodes. However, it is also possible to use our ear clips as a reference. You can order additional ear clips for this purpose in our shop.

When you purchase Thomas Feiner's invention, the Free-Cap Peak Performance Set, you also receive 25-pin connectors compatible with the Discovery Brainmaster and Q20. It's also compatible with the CAMP amplifier from Cognionics. With the appropriate adapters, you can use the Free-Cap Peak Performance salt cap with virtually any manufacturer. It's worth it because the signal quality with this cap is top-notch.
