The Neuro Duo 4 features five Vie-LED modules that emit pulsed near-infrared light at 810 nm at 10 Hz (alpha mode) and 40 Hz (gamma mode) – without generating heat. These frequencies are associated with alpha and gamma brainwave activity, respectively, in scientific literature.

Even though light in the near-infrared range is largely invisible, our design achieves one of the highest power densities in the industry (~300 mW/cm² irradiance, 1000 mW per transcranial LED, total 5000–6000 mW), based on the test report of an independent laboratory.

The Neuro Duo 4 offers both alpha and gamma modes:

  • The alpha mode operates at 10 Hz and is often associated in the literature with a relaxed state of mind.
  • The gamma mode operates at 40 Hz and is often associated with concentration and attention processes in scientific publications.
  • The Vielight Neuro uses a patented intranasal photobiomodulation technology, in which near-infrared light energy is transmitted through the nose to the underside of the brain.
  • The olfactory bulb is anatomically connected to brain regions that are associated with memory functions in the literature.
  • The ventromedial prefrontal cortex is described in scientific papers as being relevant for cognitive processes.

CORE FUNCTIONS

The Neuro Duo 4 provides access to alpha (10 Hz) and gamma pulse rates (40 Hz).

The user can switch between the two modes depending on individual needs and application goals.

  • In gamma mode, near-infrared light pulses at 40 Hz, thereby stimulating neuronal activity.
    Networks can be modulated in the gamma frequency range.
    This mode is typically used in connection with increased cognitive activity and periods of concentration.
  • In alpha mode, near-infrared light pulses at 10 Hz, which can affect alpha frequencies of the brain.
    This mode is often associated with states of rest, mindfulness, relaxation, and learning processes.

With the Neuro Duo 4, you can switch between the two modes according to your personal preference. For users who only want to use one frequency, the individual devices Neuro Gamma and Neuro Alpha are available.

MEDICAL APPROVAL

The Vielight Neuro Duo 4 is not a medical device as defined by the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR). It is a photobiomodulation system for use in professional coaching and to support personal training processes. It is also suitable for non-medical studies using near-infrared light.

Its modular design with 5 Vie-LEDs enables targeted light application to selected brain networks – with the safety of LEDs.

Vielight products are safe and well-tolerated by most users. However, there are some contraindications and potential side effects you should be aware of:

Contraindications: We do not recommend the use of our devices if you have an active brain hemorrhage or a history of epileptic seizures. Pregnant women should consult their doctor before using photobiomodulation devices.

Side effects: Some users may experience mild and temporary side effects such as headaches, dizziness, or slight discomfort at the application site. These usually subside once the body has adjusted to the application.

RECOMMENDED USE

Here the quick start guide for the Neuro Duo 4.

The manufacturer recommends taking the medication every other day initially, before considering more frequent use, which should not exceed once a day. For more severe cognitive impairment, once-daily use six days a week is recommended. Please note that these recommendations are based on theoretical assumptions, anecdotal reports, and published and ongoing clinical trials.
